How do you solve a problem like Maria?

Today, we had a wonderful weather and who is better than Maria to describe it.

Maria: Oh, oh. Reverend Mother, I’m so sorry. I just couldn’t help myself. The gates were open. And the hills were beckoning and before I … well, you see the sky was so blue today, and everything was so green and fragrant. I just had to be a part of it. And the bird kept leading me higher and higher as though it wanted me to go right through the clouds with it.

This is a song about Maria from the movie “The Sound of Music“:

How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?

When I’m with her I’m confused
Out of focus and bemused
And I never know exactly where I am
Unpredictable as weather
She’s as flighty as a feather
She’s a darling! She’s a demon! She’s a lamb!

She is gentle! She is wild!
She’s a riddle! She’s a child!
She’s a headache! She’s an angel!
She’s a girl!

  1. Jaraad, we had a Sound of Music family night this week, my kids (even the teen) enjoy it. We have all the words memorized.

Believe it or not, it was the first film I ever saw in a theatre, for my 7th birthday. Glad you had a beautiful day, and hope you get chances to escape and enjoy.

  2. Ohhhhhhh, I love this film. I usually watch it every year on Christmas day, it has become my own little Christmas tradition, especially these last couple of years celebrating Christmas away from home. Your post made me very nostalgic for some reason 🙂

    1. Naddoush,
Christmas is soon, I hope you brought your DVD with you 🙂 Those who are away from home get nostalgic from time to time, I don’t think we can help it. Sometimes feeling nostalgic is good to remind us of our past and our good times while minding our hectic busy day.

  3. I actually don’t have it with me – but I am sure that Hammoudeh downtown can help me out when time comes 🙂

  4. you might understand the weather, as crazy and fluctuating as it might be on a single day or even within the same hour, but believe me, you’ll never understand an intricate, intriguing Maria, ever 😀
